The Place

This week I am reviewing yet another great spot in Covington Opal Rooftop Restaurant & Bar. I originally heard about this place from my boss who spoke highly of a dinner she had there. When I was scoping out some new brunch places online, it popped up on my Google search. I noticed they offered brunch, but failed to see a brunch menu on their website. Honestly, I was kind of thrilled. My thoughts were "the brunch must be so good they're like trust us."

Location & Parking

This place is a little more upscale than my last two reviews in Cov. I would definitely make reservations via Open Table. This restaurant is located on Madison Ave on top of the Republic Bank building. As always, I utilized the free Sunday morning meter parking.

Atmosphere

Chic is the word to describe Opal. You walk into s stylish rooftop room with views of the Covington/Cincy skyline. We were greeted by an upbeat enthusiastic host. There is a gorgeous ceiling with glowing recessed lighting. Lots of black/navy accents and decor. One of the coolest features was the wood-fired grill which serves as the center piece of the dining room. Oh and did I mention the amazing rooftop outdoor patio. A piece of me is regretting not reviewing this spot in spring or summer because obviously it is too cold to take advantage of outdoor dining. The chosen drinks of AM are the Espresso Martini & Mimosa. The Espresso Martini was perfectly chilled and smooth. I watched the bartender poor my mimosa and it was about 90% bubbles and 10% orange juice. Needless to say, I was not complaining!

Order-Up

Remember how earlier I mentioned the mysterious not so available brunch menu? Well the reason behind this is Opal offers a brunch buffet on Sundays which was cool and unexpected. The brunch items included mixed greens, fruit, mini croissant turkey sandwiches, ricotta scrambled eggs, frittata style-casserole, biscuits & gravy, bacon, sausage, and mini waffles with in-house strawberry sauce. Very well rounded selection, I had a little bit of everything and was more than completely satisfied with every last cooked to perfection bite.

Overall Experience

The overall experience was great from start to finish. Atmosphere was amazing. The service was pleasant and on-point as well as the AM cocktails. The buffet items were well varied, had great flavor, and kept hot. This spot is on the pricier end of the spectrum. Expect to spend 45-50 dollars per person here.

Rating: 4

Opal Rooftop Restaurant & Bar gets 4 stars one for each category: Atmosphere, Service, AM Cocktail, & Plate. Since it is on the pricey side I would recommend dining here on a special occasion. This would make a great brunch place to visit before a show at the Aronoff or a holiday get together with loved ones. I am looking forward to a repeat visit in the spring hopefully enjoying an evening cocktail and a starlit dinner on the outdoor patio.
