The Place

This month, I am out trying some places on the river, both Ohio and Kentucky side. First up is Moerlein Lager House, one of the first spots to open up on The Banks known for its waterfront dining. Been here for dinner plenty of times, now it is time to brunch.

Location & Parking

Moerlein is located on Joe Nuxall Way, right next to the ball park. As most probably already know, there is ample garage parking located around The Banks. If you are looking for a leisurely morning out with minimal frustration, it is a good policy to check the Reds/Bengals schedule accordingly. This will better able you to avoid crowds and traffic congestion in that area. I grabbed Sunday free meter parking on 3rd Street and more than willingly walked a few blocks to my destination. Reservations can be made on Open Table.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere at Moerlein is sleek but casual. It's more upscale than your typical brewery style restaurant. There dining space is divided into two levels. You are greeted by a large bar upon entering and they offer seasonal outdoor/balcony seating. With this spot being located between the ballpark and the stadium, there is no pressure to show up in your finest. Hostess and servers were friendly and efficient. We were seated at a table in the front of the restaurant with a view of Smale Park and the Covington skyline. For AM cocktails I ordered the Bluemosa and my stepmom ordered the Blueberry Mule. The Bluemosa was your traditional bubbles mixed with orange juice, and blueberry simple syrup. It kind of tasted more like a blueberry smoothie than a mimosa. The Blueberry Mule had your standard mule elements with the addition of blueberry simple syrup. This drink was very crisp & refreshing.

Order-Up

Moer Stack Biscuit

For my main, I ordered the Moer Stack Biscuit. This consisted of pulled short rib, on top of a biscuit, topped with a poached egg, and jalapeno cheese sauce. This was great! The flavors melded together very well, the biscuit was nice and fluffy. I subbed the home fries for an order of garlic parmesan fries, and they were delicious.

Good Moerning Burger

My stepmom ordered the Good Moerning Burger. Love a good breakfast burger. This burger was topped with Swiss cheese, bacon, fried egg, guacamole, pico, and a pepper mayo. Great flavors here, it was like a breakfast burger with a southwestern kick to it. Burger was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. She also opted for the garlic parmesan fries.

Overall Experience

The overall experience at Moerlein Lager House was fun! I typically choose smaller less main stream type venues to review, but it was fun broadening my horizons this time around. There brunch menu offers a variety of fun takes on your favorite breakfast dishes. I was not overwhelmed by my mimosa, probably the only minor downside of our experience.

Rating: 3.5

Moerlein Lager House receives 3.5 stars. They receive a full star for each of the following categories: Atmosphere, Service, and Plate. Moerlein gets half a star for AM Cocktail compliments of my "blueberry smoothie mimosa". This spot was a great option for a wintry Sunday morning.
