Metropole

The Place

For the remainder of the month I will be reviewing brunch spots that are located in some of the areas trendiest boutique hotels. Metropole is first on the list.

Location & Parking

Metropole is located within the 21c Museum Hotel on Walnut Street across from the Aronoff Center.  With the restaurant being located close to Fountain Square, there are ample options for parking. This particular morning I decided to park in the garage at Center At 600 Vine. This use to be my go to parking spot when I would come to this area of downtown due to convenience, entry access from Vine St., availability of parking spots, and ease of being able to exit at street level onto Sixth St. What I did not love so much this time around, was paying eight dollars to park for three hours. Next time I come to this locale, I will be finding an alternate parking option.

Atmosphere

Metropole has a relaxed urban contemporary vibe. The architecture and décor within the restaurant alone are mesmerizing. Giant arched windows, intricate tile flooring, and yellow penguins provide the perfect backdrop for a morning out. Our server was down to earth, and friendly. First up are the drink orders. My stepmom ordered a traditional mimosa, her go to, and I ordered the Metro75. Artisanal is the word I use to describe the presentation and craft of both drinks once they arrived to the table. The Metro75..... I have never had a brunch cocktail like this before! This drink consists of gin, lemon, and prosecco making for an AM mixed drink that is extremely refreshing. Don't let the small glasses deceive you, because these cocktails are stout. Here it's about quality, not quantity.

Order-Up

NY Strip Breakfast

There is nothing like a good steak and eggs dish, and Metropole's take on this breakfast classic is truly elevated. My steak was cooked to medium rare perfection, as it should be, and had a nice seasoned crust on the outside. I ordered my eggs over easy and they burst open with one touch of the fork...not complaining. The breakfast potatoes were nice and crispy and the best part is they soaked up some of the jus from the steak, which added an additional aspect of flavor. Whole grain toast was also included with butter and jam.

Brioche French Toast

The French toast was golden and fluffy. The blueberry sauce was to die for and the mascarpone was a creamy, perfect alternative to butter. Maple syrup was also served on the side, as if this French toast was not indulgent enough. My stepmom also ordered a side of goetta with her meal. The portion was generous and the goetta itself had a nice crispy outside.

Overall Experience

Pleasant and fulfilling are two words I would use to describe dining at Metropole. The restaurant has a no pressure vibe, you can show up casual, and have a brunch that is not only well prepared but high end. We were greeted by a hostess that was friendly and our server was attentive, checking on us several times throughout our experience. Al a carte items range from two to six dollars. Main menu items range from fifteen to twenty-four dollars. Expect to pay twenty to thirty dollars for a well-rounded brunch experience.

Recommend: Yes or No

Yes! This has become one of my favorite brunch spots because of the quality and preparedness of food. I have always heard nothing but great things about this place but was a little apprehensive because of its mainstream location downtown. The restaurant definitely lives up to its praise and would love to have dinner here one evening.
