The Place
Moving right along in Fort Thomas with breakfast at a local staple, Fort Thomas Coffee. Reviewing coffee shops for breakfast/brunch is not really my go to. Upon doing research, I was impressed with their coffee, cocktail, and breakfast menu. Breakfast served all day, in case you were wondering.
Location & Parking
Fort Thomas Coffee is located on Highland Ave on the first level of the One Highland condominium complex. There is plenty of on-street parking in front of the coffee shop and on neighboring side streets.
Atmosphere
Fort Thomas Coffee is pretty grand for a local coffee shop. This is definitely a place you could post up for a couple of hours. They have a full service coffee shop and a full service bar, need I say more. Also a an impressive pastry case in between the two. Lots of fun cushy options for seating: bar, table/chair, booth style, outdoor, I noticed a leather tufted couch, and stylish living room chair options as well. I was definitely looking forward to taking advantage of the full service bar as well as the coffee and brunch cocktail section of their menu. For my AM cocktail I selected a classic, the Irish Coffee. This drink traditionally entails, coffee, Jameson and Bailey's. This version also had brown sugar syrup and was topped with whipped cream. This was a perfectly balanced Irish coffee and the notes of brown sugar really pulled the entire drink together. This was the perfect AM cocktail for a cool March morning.
Order-Up
Everything Breakfast Sammy
I ordered the Everything Breakfast Sammy. This breakfast sandwich included turkey sausage, egg, and American cheese stacked on an everything bagel. The everything bagel was soft and tasted really fresh. The sausage and egg were a little bland. I feel like this sandwich needed a little sauce, butter, or cream cheese to bring the flavors together. I also ordered a side of fruit. The fruit was a mix of apple, cantaloupe, and pineapple. As we know pineapple and cantaloupe are out of season. The fruit was a little tart and the texture was not great. I would forgo the fruit next time.
Overall Experience
The overall experience at Fort Thomas Coffee was good. I arrived around 11AM on this particular morning and it felt a little busy and chaotic (as busy coffee shops can feel) the service was very efficient. My Irish Coffee was great. Breakfast was a little bland, next time I would be tempted to go the pastry route or try something else. Once I sat down at the bar and received all my food, I felt pretty chill and enjoyed myself. You can get a full breakfast for ten to twenty dollars.
Rating: 3.5⭐
Fort Thomas Coffee gets 3.5 stars. One star for each of the following categories: Atmosphere, Service, and AM Cocktail. They receive half a star for Plate due to the blandness of my breakfast sandwich. I would definitely come back to order a coffee and/or another AM cocktails. Also would be willing to sample something else off of the breakfast menu.
