The Place

This week I am back downtown, and reviewing places that are truly metropolitan. Welcome to my City Brunch category. I am starting with a spot that has expanded its brunch hours to cater to us Sunday morning brunch lovers, Crown Republic Gastropub.

Location & Parking

Crown Republic is located in the heart of downtown Cincy, on Sycamore Street. There is meter parking along Sycamore and side streets as well as a pay lot directly across from the restaurant. Definitely recommend reservations because this place filled up pretty quickly. These can be made on Open Table. I finally put the app on my phone btw. One of the best decisions I ever made!

Atmosphere

Crown Republic has a modern, sleek, industrial vibe. The atmosphere is brought together with concrete floors, exposed duct work, and metal chairs. Seating options are table/chair, high top/chair, bench/table, and bar. Sidewalk outdoor seating is seasonal. Tall glass windows surround the dining area and bring in plenty of natural light. This provides you with the opportunity to take in the art of downtown people watching. Sidewalk outdoor seating is available in warmer weather. The hostess was friendly and our server was extremely knowledgeable regarding the chef-curated menu. She was able to provide narratives about most menu items and gave personal recommendations as well. This was greatly appreciated. For AM cocktails my friend ordered a classic mimosa and I had the Bourbon Espresso Martini. The mimosa came out as a generous pour and my martini was wonderful. You'd be surprised how compatible coffee and bourbon are when paired in a cocktail.

Order-Up

Queso Burrito Fundito

One of my favorite things about this dish was simply getting to say the name when I ordered it! Aside from that, this dish delivered. This burrito consisted of smoked chicken, cheddar, mozzarella, scrambled eggs, tomato relish, sour cream, and a side of Crispy Parmesan Potatoes. You could taste the flavor of all burrito ingredients through and through. I was in love with the potatoes. They were perfectly crispy, but not overcooked, and covered in wispy, freshly grated strands of parmesan cheese. The potatoes were served with a side of garlic aioli which made the perfect compliment.

English Muffin Sandwich

My friend ordered the English Muffin Sandwich. This sandwich consisted of a fluffy English, muffin, cheesy eggs, and your choice of maple sausage, bacon, or ham. My friend ordered hers with the maple sausage and it also came with a side of Crispy Parmesan Potatoes. Unfortunately the sandwich was described as being on the greasy side. She was also extremely pleased with the potatoes, they were amazing.

Overall Experience

The overall experience at Crown Republic Gastropub was great. Atmosphere was casual, laid back, enjoyed taking in the city scape through the windows, chatting over AM cocktails was nice, and you know I love a good breakfast potato. This restaurant is on the pricier side of brunch dining. I would expect to spend twenty-five to thirty-five dollars for brunch.

Rating: 3.5

Crown Republic Gastropub receives 3.5 stars. One star for each of the following categories: Atmosphere, Service, & AM Cocktail. They receive half a star for Plate due to the greasiness of the English Muffin Sandwich. Off to a good start here with the discovery of a new (for me) downtown dining option. Can't wait to visit the next spot in my City Brunch category.
