The Place
Okay, I came across another wonderful brunch spot in East Walnut Hills, 6'N The Mornin'. This restaurant prides themselves on incorporating southern flavor into their dishes. You may have noticed last week's post was in the category titled Hidden Gems. So I am doing something I have never done before; last week's post (Rusk) will be removed from Hidden Gems and will be joining this week's post in my Walnut Wonders category. I resided in East Walnut/Walnut Hills for ten years and I hold this neighborhood dear to my heart. I want it to get the credit it deserves. Don't worry I am chalk full of ideas for a new Hidden Gems category that will come out later this fall.
Location & Parking
This spot is located on the corner of Madison Rd. and Woodburn. Same parking rec's as last week. Plenty of on street meter parking on Woodburn. This means on Sunday there is free on-street parking until late afternoon.
Atmosphere
This is now the second brunch spot I have visited that is located in a former bank building. Let me say this combo really works. Upon walking in you almost feel you have time traveled back to the 1940's. The restaurant has a regal art deco vibe with a high embellished ceiling, vintage green leather booth/table seating, and a gorgeous bar situated in the back corner near the kitchen. They also offer outdoor seating. I was able to submit a reservation on their website the night before and received an email confirmation for it. When I arrived they did not have record of it. They were very gracious about it. It was 9AM and not very busy so we ended up having no problem being seated. Our server was professional and on point. Very original cocktail menu. I had the Dreamsicle which was a summery mixture of whisky, mango, and orange cream. My drink was both dreamy and taster like a creamsicle. My stepmom had the Sweet Berry, which consisted of vodka, elderberry, lemon, blueberry, and Prosecco. This drink was both sweet and tart. The fizz from the Prosecco was a great compliment to the fruity elements of the drink.
Order-Up
Nashville Kickin' Chicken & Waffles
This morning I went with the Nashville Kickin' Chicken & Waffles. This dish came with the option of upgrading your waffle to a red velvet waffle. I could not resist the temptation! The chicken was superb and prepared perfectly. The breading on the outside was seasoned, crispy, and tasted great. The red velvet waffle was definitely red but I was longing for a stronger red velvet flavor. Each bite of waffle went well with each bite of chicken.
Shrimp & Grits
My stepmom ordered the Shrimp & Grits with cheese. I must say this was the most majestic bowl of shrimp & grits I have ever seen. I snuck a taste for myself. This dish had great color and texture. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and had a classic southern smokey creole flavor to it.
Overall Experience
This place was great from start to finish. Atmosphere was original and interesting, staff members were attentive, the dishes were colorful and exciting as well as the cocktails.
Rating: 3.5⭐
6'N The Mornin' receives 3.5 out of 4 stars. They receive one star in each of the following categories: Atmosphere, Breakfast Cocktail, and Service. The receive half a star for Plate due to the lack of flavor in the up charged red velvet waffle (as much as it kills me to do this because all of the other food items were out of this world). This is a great place to visit if you are looking for a different option. I highly recommend.
